Get ready for an exceedingly enlightening day of ideas being exchanged and experience TEDxYangonInternationalSchool. You would engage in various thoughts and views from intelligent speakers like none other.

The theme "A World On The Edge" is aimed to reflect on how the world has changed throughout the years past, especially in lights of the recent events. Ideas will explore whether the world chooses to continue functioning how it normally does or to undergo a dramatic change, touching on current life-changing subjects occurring in Myanmar and the world and how it will affect the future. The event will be held in 2021, hosted by a team of students from Yangon International School who all strive to share the aspects of, as stated via theme, the world on the edge.

Aarushi Padhi

Student
Aarushi is a 7th grader at YIS. She has started an online blog that speaks up about many important topics like gender-based violence and mental well being during such difficult times. This blog does collaborations with many students and clubs as it is important that everybody has a voice. Aarushi believes in equality for all and hopes that her articles inspire many others to speak up about the things they care about and hopes that she helps people find joy even in the hardest of times.

Aung Tun Lin

Architect, Entrepreneur, and Educator
Aung Tun Lin is the founder and principal architect of LIN INNOVATIVE NETWORKS, a multi-disciplinary architecture and design firm which focuses on providing culturally and environmentally conscious design solutions with innovative approaches since 2018. He is also a licensed architect under Myanmar Architect Council. He earned his BSD Architecture degree from Arizona State University and MArch degree from University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. As an entrepreneur and a passionate educator he has extended his reach in education by establishing a college admissions support service — Capstone Education Consulting. He and his team has helped Myanmar students gain admissions into world’s prestigious universities since 2018. With his passion in architecture and education, he is now serving as the admissions advancement officer and one of the lead masterplan architects for Myanmar’s First Non-Profit Liberal Arts & Sciences University — Parami University.

Khaing Zin Ya

Doctor
Dr. Khaing Zin Ya is the cofounder of Burmese Chinese Medical Charity (BCMC) , an organization with a mission to provide free healthcare to all the ethic groups in Myanmar while providing medical supplies to free clinics. BCMC has covered 85% of the medicine and medical supplies for the free clinics and medic teams in Mandalay during current situation in Myanmar. She is also working as an entrepreneur in Borderless HealthCare Group, a global pioneer in healthcare technology. She is a well known doctor in Khoekhant Ethic group and her health care articles are published in Khoekhant e-news paper. She believes that with the advanced and rapid development of the technology in healthcare, the people in the rural area will be able to get the same healthcare opportunity compare to the people who lived in the city. She wants to promote the concept of health equity, where everyone has a fair and just opportunity to be healthy.

Michael Rutland

Michael Rutland studied Physics and Mathematics at the University of London from 1957 to 1960 and later took a Master’s Degree in Education at the University of Southampton, with a thesis on the subject of ‘School-Based In-Service Training of Teachers’. He was a Member of the British Institute of Management (MBIM), of the Institute of Training and Development(MITD) and an Associate of the Institute of Physics. He has ten years experience as an Officer in the Armed Forces of the United Kingdom and of the Sultanate of Oman. He worked for over 45 years in education in the United Kingdom, as a Teacher of Physics and as a Faculty Head of one of the largest Science Faculty in the South of England. He served on a number of national committees in the UK in the field of Education, including on Pre-Vocational Education and ‘Women into Science and Engineering, as well as lecturing to student teachers at several Institutes of Education in England, and being involved in the development of School-Based Teacher Training programmes. In 2000 he was elected by the UK Institute of Physics as ‘Physics Teacher of the Year’ for his contributions to the teaching of Physics in the United Kingdom. Michael first lived in Bhutan in 1971 when he was a teacher at the Ugyen Wangchuck Academy in Paro, where he taught the Fourth King of Bhutan. Thirty-two years ago he worked as a United Nations consultant in the Kingdom of Bhutan leading the ILO project ‘Strengthening Technical and Vocational Education, and produced a Report on the Project. More recently, he served for two years as a member of the Royal Education Council before it became part of the Ministry of Education. He was a former Chairman of the UK/US English Speaking Union Debating Society and was a member of the International Committee of the English Speaking Union. He founded the Bhutan Society of the United Kingdom twenty-eight years ago, and has been the Secretary and then Chairman of the Society, he is now the Vice-President of the Society. For six years he was the Honorary Consul of Bhutan to the United Kingdom. He has lived full time in Bhutan since 2000 and is now the Honorary Consul of the United Kingdom to Bhutan. In 2005 he was created an Officer of the Most Noble Order of the British Empire (OBE) by Queen Elizabeth II of the UK for his contributions to British-Bhutan relations. In 2017 he was invested with the Order of Merit (Gold) by His Majesty the King of Bhutan. Michael lives in Thimphu with the family of his adopted son, Kesang Wangchuk.

Wai Lin

Web Developer + Full-Stack Developer
Wai Lin is one of the founders of Nyanex and he is currently working as a Full-Stack Developer at Thate Pan Hub. He is also currently working as a freelance academic tutor and freelance web developer. In addition, Wai Lin is also a community activist and a founder of Revillux Charity Organization. He had also worked as a team coach of YIS Eagles Robotics Team. Some of his achievements include: (1) The Hackathon 2019 - The First Prize Winner (2) Deloitte Risk Intelligence Challenge 2019 - First Runner-up Award Recipient (3) Bangkok Business Challenge Global Competition 2021 - Semi-finalist (4) A delegate in Myanmar Youth Leadership Program 2018 hosted at Indiana University Bloomington (5) A delegate in National Institution for Youth Education Junior Program 2016 In terms of education, Wai Lin graduated high school from ILBC and he is currently working towards a bachelor's in Information Technology for Business at Strategy First University.

Ye Yint Phone Pyae

Student
Ye Yint is the cofounder of Youth Charity Organization Myanmar (YCOM), an organization with a mission to address communal issues in Myanmar whilst helping young people get more involved in community service. Since its founding, the organization has grown to over 30 members, and has carried out many projects focusing on education, water sanitation, health, and environmental issues. He believes that people have the responsibility to help those in need especially when they have the capability to. In a country such as Myanmar where many prevalent communal issues are in need of being addressed, Ye Yint hopes to inspire more young people to take action and spark positive change.
